What To Expect at Your Dental Checkup

Gentle Cleaning
Our hygienist removes plaque and tartar in areas your toothbrush cannot reach. We use gentle techniques and modern tools to clean and polish your teeth, so you leave feeling fresh and confident about your smile.
X-rays and Imaging
We use digital X-rays and photos to get a clear, detailed view of your teeth, gums, and bone. These images appear instantly on a screen, using less radiation than traditional X-rays, so we can walk through any areas of concern with you in real time.

Comprehensive Exam with AI Support
Dr. Zurcher performs a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, and bite, looking for cavities, gum disease, cracks, and wear. AI dental software helps flag subtle changes that may be easy to miss, so small issues can be addressed before they become bigger problems.
Oral Cancer Screening
Every checkup includes a quick, painless screening for signs of oral cancer. We carefully examine your cheeks, tongue, lips, and throat, giving you extra peace of mind about your overall health.

Time to Talk and Plan
Once we review your images together, we outline what we see in simple language. You’ll hear which items are urgent, which are optional, and which can be watched over time, then we build a plan with you that fits your goals, schedule, and budget.
Cosmetic Options
If you’re interested in cosmetic dentistry or facial esthetics, we can also discuss options such as whitening, veneers, clear aligners, and wrinkle relaxer or filler treatments that support and frame

We Accept Most PPO Insurance Plans

How Often Should I Go to the Dentist?
Most patients do best with checkups every six months. These regular visits let us remove buildup, monitor changes, and treat small issues before they become painful or complex.
Some patients with a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, or other concerns may benefit from more frequent visits. Others with very stable oral health may do well on a schedule we tailor just for them.
During your exam, we will talk through your risk factors and recommend a visit frequency that matches your mouth, not a generic rule.
Dental Checkups for Kids and Teens
We welcome school-age kids and teens, usually around age 8 and up. Our goal is to help kids feel comfortable, build healthy habits, and keep parents in the loop at every step.
Typical pediatric visits may include:
- Gentle cleanings and exams
- Digital X-rays only when needed
- Fluoride treatments and sealants for cavity-prone back teeth
- Simple, kid-friendly tips for brushing and flossing
We handle routine pediatric care and simple fillings or extractions in-house, and we refer more complex or highly anxious cases to trusted pediatric specialists when that is in your child’s best interest.
Parents appreciate our family scheduling options, which make it easier to bring multiple family members on the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to my first dental checkup?
Bring your photo ID, insurance card (if you have one), a list of medications, and any questions or goals you have about your smile. If you feel nervous about dental visits, let us know when you schedule so we can plan extra time to talk and help you feel at ease.
Do you offer crowns if you find a problem during my checkup?
Often, yes. If we find a tooth that needs a crown and it is appropriate to treat, we cab deliver a custom crownt.
What makes your checkups different from other offices?
We combine a calm, curated environment with advanced technology and a strong focus on education. You see your photos and scans, ask questions, and help shape your treatment plan instead of feeling rushed through a quick exam.
Are digital X-rays safe?
Digital X-rays use significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays. We only take them when needed for diagnosis and always follow safety protocols to keep exposure as low as possible.
How long does a typical dental checkup take?
Most comprehensive checkups take about 60 to 90 minutes. This gives us enough time to clean your teeth, take any needed images, complete a thorough exam, and sit with you to review what we found.
Can you see my whole family on the same day?
In many cases, yes. We offer family scheduling so parents, teens, and school-age kids can often be seen during the same visit.
What if I haven’t been to the dentist in years?
You are not alone, and you will not be judged here. We start by listening, then take a careful look at your current oral health and build a step-by-step plan that feels manageable for you.
Do you accept dental insurance?
Yes. We accept most PPO dental insurance plans and will verify your benefits, estimate your portion, and file claims for you. If you do not have insurance, we offer our $99 new patient special and flexible payment options to help make care accessible.
